Protecting Our Environment

Our state and our planet are healthier and more prosperous because of forward-thinking decisions past generations made to protect our environment. It’s our responsibility to preserve our land, air, water, and wildlife for our children and their children’s children.

Protecting our natural inheritance takes planning, investment, and action. I am proud of Illinois’s leadership on many critical environmental policies. To name just a few, these include:

  • 100% carbon-free power by 2045

  • Lead pipe replacement

  • Protecting the Great Lakes, which provide 21% of the world’s freshwater

  • Energy efficiency investments that more than pay for themselves

  • Defending Illinois against invasive species like the Asian carp and emerald ash borer

  • Banning the burning of “forever chemicals”

  • Allowing schools to source healthier and local food options for students and staff

  • Bringing green jobs and businesses to Illinois

As we move forward, it will be essential to explore and support new innovations to bring our aging power grid into the 21st century, such as energy storage, EV-to-grid technologies, demand response, beneficial electrification, and peak load reduction.

As new challenges emerge, I am excited to continue this work, for our district, state, country and planet!
